Happy 2017! It’ll be exciting to see what fresh hells and novel delights the new year brings. This is technically my December newsletter, but whatever.
Since we last spoke, I published:
- “Series C and Beyond: How Growth Investing Is Different”
- “Startup Advertising’s Occasional Collision With The Truth”
It wasn’t a very prolific month. I’m tempted to try to get back into blogging again, but OTOH I don’t know if I can handle that and Exolymph at the same time.
In the realm of epistemology and politics, Adam Elkus wrote down a lot of the things I’ve been pondering lately, but more articulately than I could have. Kevin Simler’s piece on “crony beliefs” versus “merit beliefs” was also brilliant.
A handful of business stories that grabbed me this month:
- Seasteading (sovereign manmade islands for Silicon Valley types) might go forward in French Polynesia.
- “A fieldguide for independent strategy consultants” by Tom Critchlow. Could be helpful if you’re looking to strike out on your own.
- Casinos use social-engineering techniques to keep gambling addicts coming back again and again. (Duh, but the particulars are interesting.)
- From 2013: “In Lieu of Money, Toyota Donates Efficiency to New York Charity” — and it makes a huge difference.
- Venkatesh Rao wrote about how “the last mile” of delivery logistics will become “the last inch” instead.
- “I Dialed a Wrong Number and Stumbled Into International Phone Fraud” — uncovering an ingenious little black market.
That’s it! See you in a month.
